Introduction about the topic

Women of colour have faced many inequalities in the workplace and there are a few terms that help us understand this. The first term I want to highlight is the “glass ceiling” it is an invisible barrier that prevents people from advancing in their workplace and prevents people from reaching management positions. the next term is used in replacement of glass ceiling and describes people of colour in the workplace. This term is known as the “concrete ceiling” this is similar to the glass ceiling except instead of the invisible barrier it’s nearly impossible to break through that and advance. Both of these terms show the barriers women have to face but how women of colour almost never break through their barrier to advance. The next term is intersectionality it was coined by Kimberle Crenshaw with the idea of systems like oppression, discrimination, and domination being tied together. In order for the workplace to be a safe and welcoming space for all companies must be aware of intersectionality and understand how it impacts individuals. All of these terms are very important when looking into the inequality that women of colour face in the workplace. It gives us a better idea of what it is like and helps us

Critical Race Theory is important to remember for this topic because because it looks into laws, social and political movements, and gives perspectives from different race scholars. By providing different research from different scholars it gives us a wider view of what to analyse.
